During his recent acceptance speech for the “Honorary Golden Bear” award at the Berlin International Film Festival, Steven Spielberg stated that he wanted to “go back to some of those earlier awful movies” in his career so he could continue to “scare the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you.”
I panic a little bit because I’ve been told I’ve lived my life because I’m not done. I want to continue working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you.
I have to go back to some of those earlier scary movies but that’s another story for later. As long as there is fun in it for me and as long as my audience can find joy and other human values in my films, I’m hesitant to say this is a wrap.
